GU to Host 'Journey through Vietnam' Nov. 12

Students from Gonzaga University, Eastern Washington University and the Community Colleges of Spokane will present "Journey through Vietnam through History and the Arts," at 2 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 in Gonzaga's Russell Theatre.

The program includes slideshows about Vietnam's historical and culture traditions, Vietnamese music, especially folk music, and traditional dance performances by the Vietnamese Youth Cultural Activities Group (VYCAG). The event will benefit the Vietnamese Alliance to Combat human Trafficking (VietACT). Profits will be donated to VietACT.

Guest speakers will include Hoang Yen, a member of the Board of Directors of VietACT; Viet Dzung, a composer, producer and editor from the Saigon Broadcasting Television Network and Asia Productions in California; Sister Mary Garvin, SNJM, assistant professor of religious studies at GU; Debbie DuPey, education specialist from the Spokane County Domestic Violence Consortium; and John Goldman, program coordinator for Domestic Violence, at the Western Regional Institute for Community Oriented Public Safety at Washington State University.

Tickets are $10 for general admission; $8 for faculty and staff from GU, EWU and CCS; and $6 for students. Advance tickets will be available from the Russell Theatre Box Office at (509) 323-6553.

The event was organized by the Journey to Vietnam Organizing Committee. Sponsors include the following Gonzaga entities: Student Body Association, theatre arts program, the diversity office, student life, and the International Student Union. Additional sponsors are the Vietnamese-American Senior Association of Spokane (VASA), and Vietnamese Alliance to Combat human Trafficking (VietACT).
