Lewis & Clark Journals Editor Moulton to Speak Nov. 17

Gary Moulton, editor of the 13-volume The Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition,

will deliver Gonzaga University's Alphonse and Geraldine Arnold Humanities Lecture at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17 in the Globe Room of Cataldo Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The title of Moulton's lecture is, "Lewis and Clark's NEW Look." Moulton is a professor of history at the University of Nebraska, and is the acclaimed editor of the "modern" edition of the Lewis and Clark journals. The bicentennial commemoration of the Corps of Discovery has altered the traditional significance of the journals.

Additional support for this year's Arnold Lecture came from the William L. Davis, S.J., Lecture Fund.

The Arnold Lecture in the Humanities was established through a trust from the late Alphonse A. and Geraldine F. Arnold, who were married for six decades, and business partners as well. The Arnolds will long be remembered for their exceptional gift to Gonzaga of gold valued at $2 million. At the time, it was the largest single gift ever to the university. Their unincorporated partnership was called Trinity Trust. Their major gift established the Trinity Trust, a university endowment that continues their partnership through support of the Arnold Professorship, scholarships for students, and many other Gonzaga endeavors.
