Islamophobia Lecture by Amer Ahmed
Sponsored by the Unity Multicultural Education Center,Amer Ahmed will be speaking on the issue of Islamophobia.Held in the Jepson Wolff Auditorium, the event it free and open to the public. Ahmed’s lecture will address post 9/11 treatment towards Muslim people. This interactive session will draw from powerful personal anecdotes to address the current state of Muslims in America. In addition, the session will provide talking points for clearing up basic misconceptions about Islam and Muslims and the socio-political implications of white American xenophobia and misunderstandings. Currently serving as the Associate Director for the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs at the University of Michigan, Ahmed has had much experience with Muslim treatment in America. During 9/11 Ahmed served as the Associate Instructor and PR Officer for the Muslim Student Union.
