| Terry Duffy Returns to Alma Mater to Help Students | |||
As a Gonzaga junior a quarter-century ago, Terry Duffy stepped behind the midcourt line at halftime of a men’s basketball game and drained a half-court shot to win a new Chrysler for a year. Duffy has returned to Gonzaga to help students slam-dunk their career goals by helping them acquire valuable internships. Duffy (’84) returned to alma mater Gonzaga this year to help in the Career Center. For Duffy, giving back to Gonzaga has been a longtime goal. “I consider it a great honor to be able to return to Gonzaga and give back to the institution that played such a crucial role in my career pursuits,” Dufy said. Duffy has family roots at Gonzaga. His father, Bill Duffy, was a professor of military science in Gonzaga’s ROTC program from 1973-76 before establishing the government relations office in 1977, which he directed it for 14 years. Terry Duffy, who received an Army commission through Gonzaga ROTC, served as an officer in assignments worldwide, and earned a Bronze Star Medal. After leaving the military in 1994, Duffy pursued his passion of mentoring youth as the national associate director for CHARACTER COUNTS!, a national educational organization where he initiated its American Youth Character Awards and helped implement its “Victory with Honor” campaign. Duffy also worked with governors of Texas, Arizona and New Jersey to design and launch statewide character education programs for public school systems. He also was executive director in the western Los Angeles area for Boy Scouts of America.
