Among the pleasant summer sounds are the chants of cheerleaders from throughout the region, including Gonzaga Prep's: “We're Catholic, we know it. We do this to show it!" View the video online. Cheerleaders can be found throughout the season of warmth here, polishing the fundamentals. The youngsters are among hordes of youth experiencing Zagville firsthand as hoop camps run back-to-back. There's even a summer camp for debate. Others can be found milling around in Bermuda shorts, looking lost but relaxed. Some are tourists, but many are discovering Gonzaga is an ideal conference location. Summertime has become an important source of revenue for Gonzaga. Ken Sammons, director of plant services, expects approximately 10,200 campus guests this summer, up sharply from last summer’s total of 8,800. Summer school enrollment is up slightly over last summer, too. GO, GONZAGA! G-O-N-Z-A-G-A! Go Gonzaga! Of course, it would not be summer here without the annual rounds of cleaning and renovations. Custodians clean all residence hall rooms not once, but every time a summer camp or conference uses them. Housing and Residence Life is developing contingency plans to house what is expected to be Gonzaga’s largest freshman class and total enrollment ever. Close to 1,250 freshmen are expected this fall, and total enrollment is projected at approximately 7,500 students. Another highlight is construction of the new Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel at the ground-floor of Kennedy Apartments, providing a worship center for students living on the west side of campus. Go, Gonzaga! G-O-N-Z-A-G-A!
