| GU's Newest Residence Hall Named for Fr. Coughlin | |||||
Gonzaga’s newest residence hall, which is nearing completion for students to move in this fall, will be named Coughlin Hall in honor of the University’s longtime former president and current Chancellor Rev. Bernard J. Coughlin, S.J., 86.
His name will live forever at Gonzaga, affixed to Coughlin Hall (N. 816 Cincinnati St.), located directly east of the McCarthey Athletic Center. The decision to name the building was made by Gonzaga’s Board of Trustees, and announced this week.
Students will begin moving into the five-story, 129,000-foot structure starting Aug. 28. Coughlin Hall will house 324 students, primarily sophomores, and will include a classroom, a large community lounge with fireplace, another with a big-screen TV, a bistro, recreation and library facilities, and a parking garage. The cost of construction is approximately $14.5 million. The total price tag, including architecture and furnishings, is $18 million. “Father Coughlin led the University to national acclaim, and he is a man of great vision and passion, and has been a great servant of the University for 35 years,” said Don Nelles, chair of the Board of Trustees. “Good leaders surround themselves with good people, and Father was able to attract a number of outstanding men and women to serve on the boards of Trustees and Regents.” |
