winter production, which opens at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23 in the newly renovated Harry and Colleen Magnuson Theatre. It continues at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, 29-31 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 1.

This play emphasizes the danger and power of evil in the world, while still providing hope in the final joyous resolution. Directed by theatre Associate Professor Brian C. Russo, “The Winter’s Tale” begins amid gloomy winter with the destructive power of King Leontes’ insane jealousy hovering over his family and his country, Sicilia. This jealousy eventually destroys all that is dear to him; but this desolation does not prevail, and the play moves to Bohemia where spring intervenes, bringing with it love and hope, undoing the damage that the King’s misguided passions have wreaked upon his land.

Tickets are now on sale and can be reserved from the Magnuson Box Office by calling (509) 313-6553 or online. Tickets are $8 for all students, $10 for GU faculty and staff, and $12 for adults.

“ ‘The Winter’s Tale’ presents a host of exciting challenges to the director: an unmotivated change in the main character that sets the entirety of the story into breakneck action; a second half that is almost a wholly different play from the first half; a shipwreck, and the obligation to deal with the most famous stage direction ever penned -- ‘Exit, pursued by a bear.’ What fun!” Don’t miss the opportunity to see Shakespeare’s classic, “The Winter’s Tale” at Gonzaga University.
