Jundt Galleries to Open 'Violence' Exhibit Jan. 23

The Jundt Art Galleries will feature an exhibition of two- and three-dimensional work illustrating the artist’s response to violence in society. “Violence!” which runs from Jan. 23 to April 4, tackles themes of war, terrorism, racial bigotry, religious persecution, torture, slavery, and isolationism.

 Among artists represented are Anderle, Beckmann, Blake, Goya, Heyman, Kollwitz, Kulhanek, Notkin, Serra, Trejo, and Weisberg. This exhibition is comprised of work from the GU collection and private collections. A free public reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 6-7:15 p.m., to be followed by a free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. titled “Searching for Perceptual Purity in a Field of Violence,” by Tony Osborne, an associate professor of communication at Gonzaga.

Continuing in the Arcade Gallery is “The Paris Review Print and Poster Series” rom the Gonzaga University collection.These posters and prints, created by artists to raise funds for The Paris Review literary magazine, will be on display through March 6.

Admission to the Jundt Art Museum is free and open to the public. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-4p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. The Museum is closed Sundays and University holidays.*
