Ruff, Ruff: Thanks a Million USD!
Our thanks to the University of San Diego for helping spread the word about Gonzaga University’s great tradition of strong alumni giving! USD recently sent its alumni a brochure to stir up their competitive spirit and gifts to that university.

“Make it another ‘ruff day’ to be a Gonzaga Bulldog!” the brochure reads. “In fact, this season the Zags are beating Toreros in alumni giving by about 3 to 1.” The tactic obviously was meant to urge USD alumni to give generously and thereby beat Gonzaga’s record.

However, the loyalty of GU alumni remains strong as Gonzaga continues to lead the West Coast Conference in alumni giving, despite good-humored efforts by our “competitors” to surpass us.

Gonzaga alumni continue to support their alma mater in increasing numbers, providing vital support for students, faculty, programs and facilities. The University’s 2008-09 Annual Campaign – Inspiring Lives, is off to an excellent start with nearly 1,400 alumni giving since June 1, the start of Gonzaga’s fiscal year.

Annual Campaign priorities this year include:

  • General Scholarship Fund (greatest need)
  • Great Teachers Program (unrestricted fund)
  • Alumni Association Scholarship

Dori Sonntag (’97, ’04 MA), director of annual giving at Gonzaga, praises GU’s alumni and encourages them to give this year.

“Without their loyal support, the University would not be able to provide the ’Gonzaga Experience’ that we all know and love,” Sonntag said. “That’s the main reason we ask alumni to give, so we can stay true to our Jesuit mission of providing a transformational experience for all students. Of course, with alumni support, we’ll also stay on top in the WCC in terms of alumni giving, which is a fun way to truly see the strength of Zag pride!”
