Gonzaga University graduate student Michael Paine, who participated in Gonzaga’s Cagli Media Project in Cagli, Italy, last summer (2007), had an article published recently in Italiakids.com, an online resource guide for international families in Italy.
The article, titled “American Kids Discover Whole Other Selves in Italy,” focuses on the experience of Italian-American children who recently moved from Miami to Acqualagna, Italy.
A student in the Gonzaga Master’s Program in Communication and Leadership Studies, is scheduled to graduate later this summer. Paine earned the Certificate in International Media while studying in Gonzaga’s Cagli Project.
In his online article, Paine discusses the experiences of Cagli Project Professor Douglas Mine’s three sons, who have had a truly international upbringing. In addition to Miami and Acqualagna, the family has lived in Guatemala, where Bruno, the eldest, learned Spanish. The brothers have never had a hard time adapting to their surroundings. Their love of sports and fluency in English and Italian have helped them make friends and develop a love for their two home countries.
“These boys are half-American and half-Italian, but in their case the result is more than the sum of the parts. Because their upbringing has allowed them to become both fully American and at the same time wholly Italian,” Paine noted. |
