Michael Tkacz, associate professor of philosophy for Gonzaga University, has been elected to the Executive Council of the American Catholic Philosophical Association for a second three-year term. Elected by the voting membership of the association, Tkacz’s three-year term will begin in November. He previously served on the council from 2002-2004. The executive council is the association’s central governing board. The council has responsibility to set and regulate policy regarding the association’s publications, annual conferences, and exchange with other learned societies. The council also oversees extraordinary expenditures of association funds. The American Catholic Philosophical Association is an international learned society of academic philosophers working in North America and the Caribbean. It was founded in 1926 to promote the interests of scholars working in the disciplines of philosophy and the history of philosophy, to preserve the Catholic philosophical tradition, and to creatively engage philosophers of every era and school of thought. The association sponsors an annual meeting of its members and publishes the proceedings of that meeting. The association also publishes a major English-language philosophy journal, the American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly. In addition, the association maintains working relationships with other learned societies in Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere that share the association’s interests. Tkacz has served on the Gonzaga University philosophy faculty since 1991 and has held the rank of associate professor since 1997. For more information, contact Michael Tkacz at (509) 323-6760 or via e-mail.
