Gonzaga University’s theatre arts program will dance its 2007-2008 season to a close with performances of “Time Warp: the Seventh Annual Spring Dance Concert,” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25, and at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in Gonzaga’s Russell Theatre, located in College Hall. Tickets for the show, which is open to the public, are $5 for general admission with special rates available for groups.
This year’s dance concert will be an excursion through several different decades and styles of dance. Jazz, tap and ballet will be featured, along with a showcase of two dances from GU’s Dance History and Choreography class.
“While this is a huge production to pull off each year, the growth I see from the students is amazing,” said Suzanne Ostersmith, dance instructor and director of Gonzaga’s dance minor program. “What better way to apply what is learned in the classroom than taking the work of the year and putting on a full-fledged dance concert? It is empowering!”
Gonzaga’s dance minor became available in the 2005-2006 school year in response to a gradual growth seen in the program since 2000, when the number of dance classes at GU tripled from two to six. The dance concert premiered in 2002.
