GU Wind Sympony to Peform in Concert April 20

The Gonzaga University Wind Symphony, Chamber Winds and Percussion Ensemble will perform a concert titled “Rhapsodies and Blues” at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 20 at the Bing Crosby Theater in downtown Spokane.

The event is free to Gonzaga University students, faculty and staff; general admission is $5. GU music faculty member Robert Spittal will conduct, while the guest artist will be Eastern Washington University music faculty member Jody Graves on piano.

The program features George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” the famous jazz concerto for piano. Other blue-tinged works on the program include contemporary composer Frank Ticheli’s “Blue Shades” for wind ensemble, and “Lament for a Fallen Friend” by Robert Spittal. The Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Daniel Cox, also will perform on the program.
