GU Presents 'Don Juan': A 21st-Century Joyride

-- “Heaven may be giving me a warning, but it will have to speak a little more loudly if it wants me to hear it.” – From "Don Juan."

Can literature’s most famous seducer ever repent? Every woman in the world thinks that she can change Don Juan, affectionately known as “DJ,” into the kind of man who will love somebody more than himself . . . but DJ has other plans. With a bumbling sidekick and women throwing themselves at him left and right, Don Juan has trapped himself in the dungeon of his own vanity. Lovers, parents, and professors offer him the keys, but will he be wise enough to take them before time runs out?

This exciting modernized version of “Don Juan” — Moliere’s hilarious tale of a womanizer on the run — opens April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Gonzaga University’s Russell Theatre (located on the second floor of College Hall, formerly the GU Administration Building, at 502 E. Boone Ave.). Catch it while you can because “Don Juan” runs but one week – April 2, 3, 4, 5 at 7:30 p.m. and April 5, 6 at 2 p.m.

Tickets go on sale March 17. Prices are $6 for students, $8 for Gonzaga employees, and $10 for adults. Contact the Russell Theatre Box Office at (509) 323-6553 to make reservations. This production is recommended for ages 12 and older.

Rev. Kevin Connell, S.J., principal of Gonzaga Prep, makes his main stage directorial debut with“Don Juan,” a fast-paced, riotous comedy adapted to modern times from Moliere’s classic original.
