Gonzaga University will host a free public reception at the Foley Center Library from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29 for the exhibition “Treasures from the Vault: Rare Books from the Jesuit Heritage,” which will be open during the reception.
This debut exhibition of Gonzaga’s choice collection of more than 3,000 volumes of rare books and manuscripts is located in the Foley Center’s Cowles Rare Books Library and runs through June 6. The exhibition includes items from philosophy, theology, literature and art. In particular, it includes a rare 1484 Roman Missal, the original edition of the Douai-Rheims Bible (NT in 1582, OT in 1609), and first editions of 20th-century Catholic novelist Evelyn Waugh, some illustrated by the author.
A docent will be on hand during the lunch hour on the first Tuesday of each month, on Fridays from 1-3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays (except holidays) from noon to 2 p.m. Tours can be arranged at other times by contacting Catherine Brown Tkacz via e-mail or at (509) 484-5562.
The exhibition is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. It will be closed for holidays on March 8, 15 and 21-24.
