TurkeyPalooza 2007 Aims to Deliver 500 Thanksgiving Dinners Next Week (SPOKANE, Wash.) — What is the best way to cook 10 turkeys? How does one mash 50 pounds of potatoes? All these questions and more will be answered during Turkeypalooza 2007 – the annual Thanksgiving event of the Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga University. The Campus Kitchen -- a hunger relief organization in its third year at GU -- aims to prepare and deliver 500 Thanksgiving dinners to low-income Spokane residents. Volunteers are needed to achieve this goal. Community members may cook meals or deliver meals. Monetary donations may also be made online at: www.campuskitchens.org/donate through PayPal. Donors are able to specify if their money will go to the national fund or the Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga University. A $10 donation provides a homebound senior with a complete meal. A $50 donation provides a family of four with a complete Thanksgiving meal. The Campus Kitchens Project is a national, student-powered hunger relief program. Its mission is to provide nutritious meals to disadvantaged families, individuals, and homebound seniors in the community. Since 2001, the Project has served more than 519,000 meals nationwide and volunteers have logged more than 135,000 hours doing so. For more information, please contact Rebecca Teichmann, the Campus Kitchen coordinator at GU, at (509)-323-6939 or via e-mail. |
