GU Symphony Orchestra to Perform Oct. 22 at Bing

The Gonzaga (University) Symphony Orchestra will perform its season-opening concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at the Bing Crosby Theater, formerly the Met (901 W. Sprague Ave.).

The concert is open to the public and free for GU students, faculty and staff. Tickets are $5 for students not attending GU, $7 for general admission, and will be available at the music department office prior to the concert as well as at the door.

There will be a free shuttle bus leaving from St. Aloysius Church at 6:45 and 7:10 p.m. and returning to GU after the concert.

Conducted by Kevin Hekmatpanah, the program will consist of Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to “Semiramide,” Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherezade” and Ernest Chausson’s “Poème” for violin and orchestra, featuring violin soloist Tracy Dunlop, who teaches violin lessons at Gonzaga and is the former assistant concertmaster of the Spokane Symphony.

The Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra is comprised of students, faculty and professionals from the greater Spokane community. The ensemble has a long tradition as one of the finest community orchestras in the region, and its repertoire contains some of the most demanding pieces in orchestral music.
