Debaters Bormann, Saez Named All-Americans

Gonzaga University juniors Nick Bormann, from Spokane, and Grace Saez, Las Vegas, have been named Cross Examination Debate Association All-Americans.

Saez, who is majoring in applied communication, was named to the Academic All-America team; Bormann, a philosophy major, was named to the All-America team. The honors were announced March 21 at the opening ceremonies for the CEDA National Championship Tournament at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.

“Grace and Nick have been our top team all season and they both deserve the honor,” said GU debate Coach Glen Frappier. “Twenty debaters (out of hundreds nationwide) are chosen to each of these teams. We’re extremely proud of both these students. The best news is they’re only juniors.”

Founded in 1971 as the Southwest Cross Examination Debate Association, CEDA is now the primary national association promoting policy topic intercollegiate academic debate. In cooperation with the National Debate Tournament Committee and the American Debate Association, CEDA formulates the annual intercollegiate policy debate topic used in tournament competition throughout the nation.

The CEDA National Championship Tournament continues through Sunday. After that, the Gonzaga debaters will travel to Dallas to compete in the 61st National Debate Tournament March 30 through April 2 at the Westin Park Central Hotel.
