| NY Times' Markoff to Talk on Future Media March 26 | |
|
John Markoff, a West Coast correspondent for The New York Times, will discuss the “Future of the Media: Connecting You to the Globe,” at 7 p.m., Monday, March 26 in the Cataldo Hall Globe Room. The event is free and open to the public.
Markoff began writing about computers and technology issues for The New York Times in March 1988 as a reporter for Business Day. He has written about technology since 1977, when he began covering it in connection with the defense industry for The Pacific News Service in
Markoff is the author of “The High Cost of High Tech”; “Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier,” written with Katie Hafner; “Takedown: The Pursuit and Capture of America's Most Wanted Computer Outlaw,” written with Tsutomu Shimomura; and “What the Dormouse Said: How the ’60s Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer.”
Markoff’s distinctions and awards include being named one of Upside Magazine’s Digital Elite 100 in 1996 and 1997 and one of the ’ top 100 news reporters by the TJFR Business News Reporter in 1999, 2000, and 2001. In 1988, he received the Software Publishers Association’s award for best news reporting. The New York Times has nominated him for a Pulitzer Prize three times.
