| Expert Discusses Democracy Challenges March 8 | |
John Stewart, Ph.D., one of the most prolific scholars in communication and dialogue in the United States, will address “The Challenge to Reclaim Democracy,” at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 8 in the Gonzaga University Jepson Center Wolff Auditorium. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is presented by the Gonzaga University Master of Arts in Communication and Leadership Studies Program and the School of Professional Studies. Stewart will focus on the current serious dysfunction in public discourse about critical issues and will address how the structure of these conversations frustrates participants, impedes effective action, and diminishes public confidence in government. Stewart will further outline how people can replace these ways of talking with civil alternatives. Stewart, who has written more than 20 books and 30 scholarly articles, currently serves as the vice president for academic affairs at the University of Dubuque. To RSVP, visit www.gonzaga.edu/ce. For more information, contact GU Professor John Caputo, Ph.D., chair of the department of communication and leadership studies at Gonzaga, at (509) 323-6656 or via e-mail . |
