Alliance for Responsible Media Seeks Nominations

The Northwest Alliance for Responsible Media (NW-ARM) will accept nominations for its Award for Excellence in Media Literacy through Friday, March 16. The winner will be honored at the ninth annual Women’s Leadership Conference of the Inland Northwest on April 18.

  • Anyone who meets at least one of the following criteria may be nominated:
  • Organizes and educates the Inland Northwest community about media literacy and media responsibility;
  • Empowers youth and adults to become critical consumers of media;
  • Encourages media to act as responsible, effective stewards of this critical public trust;
  • Counteracts the negative effects of media on our community and culture;
  • Promotes and disseminates research on media effects and media literacy;
  • Explores positive solutions regarding the influence of media violence in the lives of children;
  • Plans and develops effective resolutions to the issues of media literacy;
  • Works with the media to enhance the health and development of the Inland Northwest community;
  • Educates about gender issues in the media.

Those who wish to nominate someone may visit the following Web site for further instructions and may use the online form or download the form and mail it, postmarked on or before March 16, to: NW-ARM Awards, 502 E. Boone Ave., MSC 2616, Spokane, WA 99258.

The award will be given at “Surviving and Thriving,” a conference sponsored by NW-ARM and the Women’s Leadership Conference of the Inland Northwest. The conference will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the Spokane Community College Lair.

NW-ARM was formed to address the issue of media impact on contemporary culture and specifically on youth. The organization, which is located at Gonzaga University, explores the influence of media on society, educates the Inland Northwest region about this influence, and engages educators, government, churches, social and health service professionals and media in developing awareness of these issues.
