GU School of Business Earns Accreditation

Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business InternationalThe Gonzaga University School of Business Administration has earned unqualified accreditation renewal from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Only one-third of business schools in the United States and 15 percent of business schools worldwide are accredited by AACSB International.

In addition to the renewal, the AACSB team commended the School of Business Administration in five areas, and lauded some of the best practices of its MBA program and the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.

The School underwent a peer review by a team of three business schools deans appointed by the AACSB, which conducted a thorough review of the school’s performance based on its Standards for Accreditation. The standards establish reasonable levels of performance under which a school’s quality is evaluated, including mission-driven outcomes, continuous improvement through a strategic plan, faculty effectiveness as teachers and scholars, and assurance of learning measures. Accreditation by AACSB is a prestigious recognition of high quality and excellence in business schools.

The School received its initial AACSB accreditation in 1990 and was reaccredited in 1996. Dean Barnes described maintenance of the accreditation as “a rigorous, ongoing process. It ensures that our students receive the best we have to offer.”

The peer review team recently notified the School of its recommendation to the governing board of AACSB. The School of Business Administration, led by Dean Clarence “Bud” Barnes, was established in 1921 and offers both undergraduate and graduate programs.
