| Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble Performs Tonight | |
|
The Eastern Washington Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble, composed of 45 student musicians from Gonzaga University, Whitworth College and Eastern Washington University, will perform today at 7:30 p.m., (Monday, Feb. 5) at the Bing Crosby Theatre (formerly The Met) downtown Spokane. The event is free and open to the public. Transportation will be available to Gonzaga students. Buses will depart from St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 6:45 and 7:10 p.m. and will take GU students back to campus after the concert. The group is composed of the finest wind, brass and percussion students from GU, Whitworth and EWU, and will perform some of the greatest contemporary wind ensemble music, led by guest conductor Michael Haithcock, director of bands and instrumental studies at the University of Michigan. Haithcock is a professor of conducting, and was selected to conduct the world premiere of Daron Hagen’s “Bandanna,” an opera for voice and wind band commissioned by the College Band Directors National Association. He has earned wide praise for his innovative approaches to developing the wind ensemble repertoire and is in constant demand as a guest conductor and presenter at symposiums and workshops. For more information, call the GU music department at (509) 323-6733. |
