GU to Present Art, Imagination and 'Seussical'

“Seussical™” the musical opens at Gonzaga University’s Russell Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 3, 9 and 10; matinees will be staged at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4, 10 and 11. Ticket sales began today (Monday, Jan. 22), and are $6 for children and students, $10 for GU faculty and staff, and $12 for adults. Group rates are available for 20 or more people. Call Russell Theatre box office at (509) 323-6553.

An art class of kindergarteners through third-grade students at the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center, led by Spokane Art School faculty member Jeff Gibson-Smith, will provide “Seussical™” themed art for the Russell Theatre lobby.

“Seussical™ is a great show to do in a university setting as it is not just a ‘children’s show,’ but a thought-provoking journey through some wonderful adult storylines,” said Suzanne Ostersmith, director of the musical. “Granted they are birds, elephants and Whos, but serious themes nonetheless.”

“Seussical™” is an integration of many different famous characters developed by the world-renowned children’s book author Dr. Seuss, including the Cat in the Hat, Horton and Elephant, in a family friendly story about Horton saving Whos, who live on a speck of dust. Horton, and his friend Jojo, must convince their fellow Dr. Seuss jungle friends that the Whos are indeed worth saving.
