Ralph Wood, professor of theology and literature at Baylor University, will speak on the topic, “Flannery O’Connor’s ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’: the Misfit as a Critic of Conventional Christianity,” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at Gonzaga University. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Jepson Center’s Wolff Auditorium at Gonzaga, and is sponsored by the Gonzaga University Faith and Reason Institute. Wood is a well-known author, essayist and lecturer. He has written four books, including: “Flannery O’Connor and the Christ-Haunted South” and “The Comedy of Redemption: Christian Faith and Comic Vision in Four American Novelists.” The latter book discusses the works of O’Connor, Walker Percy, John Updike and Peter De Vries. The Gonzaga University Faith and Reason Institute is dedicated to integrating faith and reason both through investigating the nature and results of scientific research and through discussion and reflection on topics in the philosophy of religion. The Institute, often in cooperation with organizations such as the Weyerhaeuser Center for Christian Faith and Learning, sponsors conferences and lectures throughout the year that are available to university students and the public.
