Sabey to Speak at GU Health Care Series Feb. 5

(SPOKANE, Wash.) – Gonzaga University’s Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, collaborating with GU’s nursing department, will continue their popular speaker series with a lecture by Seattle entrepreneur David Sabey at 4 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Wolff Auditorium of the Jepson Center for the School of Business Administration. The series is titled, “The Future of Health Care: An Entrepreneur’s Perspective.”

Sabey, a Gonzaga Trustee Emeritus, is president of Sabey Construction. A major project of Sabey Construction includes the James Tower on the campus of Providence Hospital in Seattle, a synergistic host to a diverse set of world-class emerging and renowned companies.

Among the current tenants at James Tower are Laboratory Corporation of America/Dynacare, the nation’s second-largest diagnostic lab; Seattle University’s College of Nursing graduate programs; medical device technologies – NeuVation, LLC, and MD-Pi, LLC; and Accuray’s Cyberknife stereotactic radiosurgery systems. Additional on-campus synergies include the clinical delivery and research centers for cardiovascular and neuroscience institutes.

The first lecture in the series, held Dec. 7, was a big success as it featured Leroy Hood, M.D., Ph.D., and organizers look forward to more quality speakers this spring. More than 80 Hogan Program and Gonzaga nursing students attended the Dec. 7 event in the Jepson Center. Students heard Hood’s perspective on the human genome project and other topics related to the future of health care. Afterward, students had the opportunity to meet Hood at a social sponsored by the Hogan Program and Gonzaga nursing.

Faculty and staff from both programs are proud of the initial collaborative effort, which they view as the first of many to come.

“It was delightful to hear Dr. Hood speak from an entrepreneurial perspective on health care issues,” said Taylor Black, a Hogan Program student and member of the leadership team. “The lecture was an awesome opportunity for those interested in business to collaborate with the department of nursing and I look forward to the next three sessions.”

More information about the upcoming speaker’s sessions will be announced when finalized. For more information, please contact Nicole Cooney, Hogan Program coordinator, at (509) 323-3405 or via e-mail at cooneyn@jepson.gonzaga.edu
