The Gonzaga University Socratic Club will sponsor a lecture about C.S. Lewis by Forrest Baird, a professor in the Whitworth College philosophy department, at 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, in Room 101 of the Gonzaga Administration Building. The event is free and open to the public. This meeting, the club’s last until spring 2007, will focus on Lewis and “The Abolition of Man.” Following the talk, GU philosophy Associate Professor Brian Clayton will respond. Baird teaches philosophy and specializes in the history of philosophy, the philosophy of religion, and C.S. Lewis. He is editor of the well-known anthology series “Philosophic Classics” (Prentice-Hall). Clayton specializes in human nature, C. S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Walker Percy. Doug Kries, associate professor of philosophy at Gonzaga, is directing the Socratic Club this semester while David Calhoun is away from campus.
