A World Record Food Drive Attempt Oct. 18

Sodexho Campus Dining Services aims to set a new world record and feed the hungry in Spokane through its Cans Across America food drive that culminates in a countdown finale from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.18, in the Marketplace at the GU COG.

Cans Across America offers a great opportunity for students and community members to donate canned food to help those in need as Sodexho locations nationwide work together in the effort to set a new Guinness World Record for the most canned food donations raised during a single event in multiple locations nationwide. Plus, all of the food collected during the Gonzaga event will help feed the hungry right here in Spokane.

From 5-7 p.m., on Oct. 18, all cans collected at GU will be counted and certified by two witnesses, one from Second Harvest Inland Northwest food bank, a beneficiary of the Sodexho food drive, and another from the Gonzaga Student Body Association. Media are welcome.

Kyle Mott, the student promotions coordinator for the GU Sodexho branch, said Gonzaga students are excited about the "Cans Across America" event.

"It will allow them to have some fun, while helping a lot of deserving people," Mott said. "It's also really exciting to have the chance to set a new Guinness World Record in the process. This event can prove to be our most rewarding promotion of the year."
