Gonzaga U. Students Embrace the 'Gonzaga Creed'

The Gonzaga (University) Student Body Association (GSBA), recognizing the increasing importance that campus climate plays in the lives of students, has created and adopted the Gonzaga Creed. Gonzaga’s Board of Trustees approved the Creed at its July meeting.

The Gonzaga Creed was introduced to freshmen when they first arrived on campus in late August, and received free T-shirts with the Gonzaga Creed printed on the back. These T-shirts are available throughout the year for all returning GU students and the GSBA said it will order more as the need requires.

GSBA has bought a large banner with the Gonzaga Creed printed on it. The banner was displayed on “Welcome Back Night” in the Martin Centre where hundreds of freshmen and returning student leaders signed it.

The banner, with nearly 1,000 signatures, is on display on the south wall of the Crosby Student Center. Due to a lack of space on the banner itself, GSBA provides a wall of white construction paper behind the banner if more students are interested in signing the Creed to show their support for it as representative of students’ ideas and views about campus climate.

A copy of the Gonzaga Creed has been printed on blue paper, framed, and placed in each classroom on campus. The Gonzaga Creed is an important part of the GSBA executive branch’s mission this year because it was made by students for students and will always remain a pure student initiative.

For more information about the Gonzaga Creed, contact GSBA President Ben Folger at (509) 323-6874 or via e-mail at

The Gonzaga Creed is an image created for students, by students, which lays out what being a member of the Gonzaga Community actually means. It will provide students with something to invest in for themselves, and is a new tradition for Gonzaga students that will continue for years to come.
