Gonzaga University has named a new director to The Career Center, Mary Ritter Heitkemper, Ph.D., who has served as interim director during the 2005-2006 school year and who worked previously in The Career Center for 10 years.
Heitkemper has more than 16 years of leadership experience working with students and career services at Gonzaga and prides herself on building strong connections with the business community. Heitkemper earned a bachelor’s degree in English (minor in political science) from Washington State University in 1988. She earned a master’s degree from Gonzaga in administration and curriculum in 1990, and finished her doctorate in leadership studies at Gonzaga in 1998.
The Career Center works closely with Spokane-area employers, and reaches out to employers in Seattle, Portland and elsewhere in the West. The Center exists to educate and assist Gonzaga students and alumni in the career development process, which includes training in the development, initiation and implementation of career plans as well as giving students and alumni assistance in finding meaningful opportunities. The Center also provides to employers effective and efficient service to meet their full-time and internship recruitment hiring needs.

The Career Center hosts career opportunity fairs, provides mock interview and etiquette training, posts student job listings, and provides training on resumes, cover letters, and interview and job search skills.
