Gonzaga University will host several events during Japan Week 2006, which runs from April 22-29.
This Saturday, April 22, from 1-3 p.m., Gonzaga students will present “hands-on” activities such as calligraphy and origami at the opening ceremonies in River Park Square downtown Spokane. Call (509) 363-0304 for details.
On Thursday, April 27 beginning at 11 a.m., the Gonzaga Japanese Club will host “EXPO JAPAN at Gonzaga University,” a day of events that includes food, musical performance, shopping, and the presentation of an animated feature film. All events at Gonzaga will be held in Cataldo Hall on the north side of campus, directly northeast from St. Aloysius Church.
The food court will be open April 27 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., as will a shopping area featuring merchandise from Daiso, a Japanese discount store in Lynnwood, Wash. From 3:30-5:30 p.m. that day, Seattle musicians Elizabeth and John Falconer will give a musical performance on the koto and shakuhachi flute. At 6 p.m. on April 27, the Gonzaga Japanese Club will show – in Cataldo Hall on the GU campus – an award-winning animated feature film directed by Satoshi Kon.
