Jill Quinn, a senior from Omaha, Neb., earned one of the 10 All-American Attorney Awards for her efforts in the annual UCLA Mock Trial Invitational Tournament in Los Angeles Jan. 14-16. Quinn compiled scores totaling 19 out of a possible 20 at the competition.
Quinn’s GU Fusion Team No. 614 was among 42 elite squads (out of 555 nationwide) and 336 students who competed at the tournament. Team 614 lost to eventual Top 10 team Howard University in the first round before defeating the University of California at Santa Cruz and then splitting decisions (1-1) with both Claremont McKenna and Stanford University to finish with a 4-4 record.
Other Fusion Team members included Kristen Benadom, Cory Campbell, Gina Cervino, Robert Coleman, Michael Hickey, and Claire Hood.
This combination team is coached by Georgie Ann Weatherby, GU associate professor of sociology and criminal justice; Vik Gumbhir, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice; Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Tony Hazel; Spokane attorney Tracy LeRoy, who works for the Witherspoon, Kelley, Davenport, & Toole law firm; and Jennifer Underwood, attorney with Keith Douglass & Associates.
