Florence Students Give $5,500 to African Children

Gonzaga University students studying abroad in Florence, Italy raised more than $5,500 with their annual Christmas Raffle and Auction, and will donate it to the Light in Africa organization, which helps care for abandoned, abused and disabled children near Mount Kilimanjaro.

The sum was raised in two weeks, due to the efforts of 160 Florence students and the Gonzaga-in-Florence staff.

“I am enormously proud of Kassi (Kain) and the Student Life staff, Jen Kurdy and Ryan Lynch, who marshaled so much energy in making our Christmas raffle such a great success,” said Pat Burke, interim dean in Florence.

“Of course, it could never have been done without the generosity of the faculty, staff, families, students, local businesses and the pensione owners and managers who donated all the prizes,” said Kassi Kain, associate dean for student life.
