The Gonzaga University debate team is ranked 22nd in the nation in the latest rankings published by the National Debate Tournament. The rankings reflect the first half of the debate season, the fall semester. Debate Coach Glen Frappier said he was pleased with the results.
“Last season we finished out of the top 25 for the first time in many years, so its good to see some progress in our climb back to the Top Ten,” Frappier said. “We’ve got a fairly young team and many promising recruits so we’ve got a lot of confidence we can do it.”
No one will argue that the Zag debaters will get little rest during the holidays. They leave Dec. 28 for back-to-back tournaments at the University of Southern California and California State University at Fullerton. The debaters will return Jan. 4 to host a high school tournament Jan. 5-7.
The California tournaments are the first national circuit tournaments of the spring. The debaters also will compete at University of California at Berkeley, the University of Texas and the University of Kansas – in addition to regional and national championship tournaments.
