GU Community Outreach Gets Gift from Technet

Gonzaga University’s Center for Community Action and Service Learning (CCASL) has received a $8,500 donation from Technet, a Spokane-based nonprofit organization, that will support student-coordinated community service programs, said Sima Thorpe, director of CCASL.

CCASL programs empower students to become leaders who will make a positive difference in the community. Last year, students in CCASL programs volunteered a total of more than 100,000 hours.

Technet’s gift came from the proceeds of its annual awards banquet, held in October. Each year, profits from the event are donated to a charity or cause in Spokane. This year’s event was the final one for Technet, said Jeannine Fruci, president and founder of Technet.

The organization, which promoted education and growth within the Inland Northwest’s technology community, is disbanding after 15 years of service to Spokane’s technical community.
