Gonzaga University Mock Trial Team 614 was ranked 7th in the 66-team prestigious Middle Tennessee State University Mock Trial Invitational Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Nov. 10-13, after falling in the second round to the eventual champion Furman University.

The team – which consists of Cory Campbell, Gina Cervino, Dan McGivern, Jill Quinn, Kate Scordato, Matt Shoop, and Forrest Smith – had posted a 6-2 record, beating Western Kentucky, William & Mary, and University of South Carolina, before succumbing to Furman.

The Gonzaga Team 616 posted a record of 2-6 at the tournament involving 528 students, while GU's Team 615 ended with a record of 2-5-1. Team 616 includes Tim Campbell, Robert Coleman, Katie Gast, Brett Grannemann, Ginny Griffin, Michael Hickey, and Sara Strachila. Team 615 includes Kristen Benadom, Patrick Gunning, Claire Hood, Katie Love, Emmilee Peterson, Daisy Tran, and Greg Wilson.

The teams are coached by Georgie Ann Weatherby, GU associate professor of sociology and criminal justice; Vik Gumbhir, GU assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice; Tony Hazel, Spokane County deputy prosecutor; Tracy LeRoy, attorney with the Spokane law firm Witherspoon, Kelley, Davenport, & Toole; and Jennifer Underwood, attorney with Keith Douglass & Associates.

"We’re rivaling Zags’ (men’s) basketball with our Number 7 ranking early on this season," Weatherby said. "Now it's onward and upward . . . and, by the way, we already need a bigger trophy case," Weatherby said.
