During its Jubilee year (25th anniversary of its founding) in 1911-1912, Gonzaga changed its name from "Gonzaga College" to "Gonzaga University." In April 1912, Gonzaga President Louis Taelman, S.J. instructed attorneys Turner and Geraghty to amend its charter to recognize the name change and add the College of Law. Article I, Section 1 was amended to read: "The name of this corporation on shall be The Corporation of Gonzaga University of Spokane, Washington." After being signed by the Board of Trustees, the new charter stayed in the president’s files until Provincial James Rockliff arrived on June 2. Afterward receiving his approval, the charter was sent to the Secretary of State in Olympia. Later in June the school celebrated the name change with a Jubilee Week. It ended with "University Day" on June 21, also the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. As the Spokane Chronicle reported: "Gonzaga College was great. Gonzaga University will be greater. Twenty-five years of growth and success have been completed. A thousand years of broader growth and grander success should be beginning now."
