Staff Assembly Executive Council Meeting Minutes

February 1, 2006

Members present:  Shelly Daugherty, Rick Smith, Connie Hickman, Marcia Bertholf, Krystal burns, Mary Beth Charleboix, Kelly Earnest, Brady Nielsen, Crystal Roberg

Agenda Items discussed:

1.  SWOT Analysis – As a part of the university wide strategic planning objectives Staff Assembly will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday, February 15.  All staff are invited to come together to discuss threats, opportunities, weaknesses and strengths of the university.  The meeting will be moderated by someone outside of Staff Assembly.  This meeting is in addition to department meetings held throughout the university.  Some of these discussions will be facilitated by GU members and others by outside facilitators.  The meeting, originally scheduled in the Road to Zanzibar Rm, is now scheduled to be held in the Globe Room at Cataldo in anticipation of a larger crowd.  Dessert and drinks will be provided.  Staff can bring their own lunch.

2.  Employee Advocacy program.  This program is one that is very important to the SAEC.  At our last meeting we passed a recommendation that the Employee Advocacy program be “housed” under the office of Fr. Pat Lee, V.P for Mission.  Thayne is aware of our proposal to ask to move the program under the VP for Mission.  After further discussion those present agreed that it would also be good to keep the Employee Advocacy program under the auspices of the Staff Assembly.  Further discussion included the need for more advocates, training, a formal policy for conflict resolution with our input and perhaps some fund raising.

3.  Staff Anniversary gifts:  Marcia brought up that we need to revisit the way we distribute anniversary gifts.  It might be best to use open meetings for distributing milestone gifts but to continue to distribute anniversary gifts on a monthly basis as we have done in the past.  That being said we need to determine where we’re at, get caught up and continue to refine the process so that no one gets overlooked.

4.  Habitat for Humanity:  Marcia has worked with Habitat for Humanity coordinators and arranged for 3 Fridays in March for GU people to be able to volunteer.  Those dates are March 10, 17 and 24.

5.  Distribution of Basketball tickets:  Mary Beth is researching basketball ticket distribution to faculty and staff members after receiving some questions/complaints from staff.  She will provide more detailed information at the next meeting. Further discussion included the difference between fringe benefits and formal benefits, access to the Fitness Club and a Kennel Club type t-shirt for faculty and staff.
