Staff Assembly Executive Council Meeting

December 7, 2005

Members Present:  Shelly Daugherty, Marcia Bertholf, Krystal Burns, Mary Beth Charleboix, Karen Franks-Harding, Rick Smith, Kelly Earnest, Brady Nielsen, Angela Ruff and Connie Hickman

Agenda Topics Discussed:

-         Trevor Werttemberger, President of Staff Assembly is no longer with the university.  In a discussion on how best to replace Trevor, SA members decided the best course of action was for Shelly, the SA Vice-President to assume the role of President early, making her term as president 18 months instead of one year.  Regarding the vacant Vice President position, nominations will be taken from SAEC members, since they have been involved from the beginning which will make for an easier transition.  If, after the 6 months they want to continue, then their name will be put on the ballot with others who have been nominated for that position during the nomination/election process in the spring.

-         Continuing discussion on Pay for Performance.  Thayne McCulloh is putting together a committee to study and discuss this subject.  SA would like to see a member from the Compensation Committee be on that committee.  A meeting is being held on the 16th with Thayne to discuss this matter.

-         Heads Up Gonzaga.  Marcia pointed out perhaps Fr. Lee and Fr. Ganz could be invited to make a presentation regarding the University Mission which has been a popular subject mentioned on staff surveys.  We will take the subject up again at our January 4 meeting when more information is available.  Related to that subject, Rick Smith pointed out that Spring Break is a busy time for people in Plant Services. Kelly mentioned it is also a busy time for ITSS.

-         Regarding the ongoing discussion about better communication it was pointed out that often the staff lists in university communication systems is not current (i.e. the staff-l list).  We would like to see this improved.  Maybe there are ways SA can help in this process.
