Staff Assembly Executive Council Meeting
October 5, 2005
Approved 11 16 05
Members Present: Shelly Daugherty, Connie Hickman, Karen Franks-Harding, Brady Nielsen, Crystal Roberg, Rick Smith and Kathy Sherrick.
Agenda Topics Discussed:
- The Gonzaga campaign “Educating People the World Needs Most†will close on Thursday, October 20 with a special event in the McCarthy Athletic Center at 4:30 p.m. Shelly encouraged Staff Assembly members, not only to attend, but to encourage others in their departments to come as well. T-Shirts are available for those willing to attend.
- Strategic Planning Steering Committee update. Fr. Spitzer asked the university to create a long range vision for the university that would integrate goals and vision statements from different departments and schools into one comprehensive and cohesive statement. The Steering Committee is then charged with the responsibility to devise a plan to achieve that integrated, long range vision. It was suggested that a survey among university members be done to discern their perception of the university’s strengths and weaknesses. Such a survey would be anonymous and available in other forms beside electronic.
- Staff Assembly representation and participation (ongoing discussion):
There is a need to educate the Gonzaga Community about what we do. To that end the following suggestions were made:
o Include an invitation to meetings on all minutes.
o Members of Staff Assembly can visit various group/department meeting,
§ for instance the Student Life Division that meets one Tuesday morning of each month.
§ Contact Supervisors via email. Follow up with phone call
o Staff Assembly members could make it a goal to personally invite someone to meetings
o Staff Assembly members can wear their SA shirts on meeting days
o Staff Assembly Bulletin Board
§ A board is probably available in Admin basement near Faculty Services
§ Post pictures, calendars, minutes, etc
§ Post a summary of accomplishments of Staff Assembly
· Crystal and Shelly will review previous meeting minutes (especially June meeting minutes which recap accomplishments of that year).
- Kathy Sherrick brought up the Board of Regents meeting on October 21. Suggested that for the next on-campus meeting in April Staff Assembly could give a presentation highlighting our work (mission, vision, goals and accomplishments).
