STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

1912 Room – Administration Building

Members Present:  Marcia Bertholf,  Kathy Sherrick, Kim Gieber, Bill Kostelec, Angela Ruff, Linda Sue McClure, Krystal Burns, Mike Casey.

The meeting was called to order by President Marcia Bertholf at 12:10 p.m.

Minutes from August 27th were approved with changes.

Old Business

Fall Open Meeting:              Marcia was unable to procure a meeting place to hold 100 people.  Due to construction & classes, large meeting rooms are hard to find this semester. Russell theatre is being used for a classroom this semester. The council would rather not use the Law School court room as it is disconnected from the campus and caused a low turnout for the meeting.  Marcia will work with Campus Services to find a venue.  The agenda will be: Follow up on the Compensation Survey, Staff Survey,  Accreditation information from Thayne & reintroducing the members of the council & the committees.

Follow Up Brown Bag from Heads Up Gonzaga: To be held September 25th  when Fr. Spitzer will address the Mission. Marcia & Tricia Burns-Hart are meeting to help organize the event.

Financial Report:     Marcia notified Rick Jones on the SA budget and the area for the staff anniversary gift certificates.  Of the budgeted amount, most has already been spent since June.  Rick directed Marcia to let it continue on as it has and we will look at the line to see about increasing it for next years budget.

Anniversary Gift Certificates: Marcia will talk with Keith Gauthier to get an understanding of why the gift certificates are to be used only at the bookstore.   With the new GU ID cards, Council will work with Rick Jones to see if the gift certificate program can be increased to use other services on campus, Paw Prints, Sodexho, etc.

New Business

New Student Orientation: An email came out last week inviting Faculty & Administrators to the orientation events on the first weekend before classes began.  Marcia asked that at least one Staff representative be put on the orientation team so that staff areas are represented at orientation & that staff be invited to attend the events.  Marcia will talk with Beth Hellwig-Olson to get on the orientation agenda for the 2004 academic year.

Newsletter Items  Any stories or concerns should be addressed to the Community Service/Outreach committee.

Staff Morale  Staff recognition was a major concern that came out of the Heads Up Gonzaga survey as well as the staff survey.  Council is looking at ways to get information to the staff person that was helpful or went “above & beyond” and also to make the supervisor aware. Marcia will bring information next week.  Linda Sue has copies of the “appreciation certificates” that were circulated a few years ago.  She will get a copy to the council.

Meeting adjourned at 12:50pm.

By virtue of the bylaws, all Staff Assembly meetings are open unless otherwise designated by the Executive Council. Everyone is welcome to attend.
