Compensation Consultants Update

Exec Council met with Compensation Committee on 5/4/04 to discuss the information that will be sent to the consultants on staff compensation.  The consultants have been charged with using different schools with a more comparable budget to GU & in size, endowment, faculty, student & staff ratios as well as compensation packages.  Their first list of West Coast schools did not give them sufficient data to compare.  The consultants met with faculty senate members & staff assembly separately on 4/27.  Faculty are researching the proposed schools mentioned in the consultants report.  Staff are coming from a different angle because their salaries are benchmarked to local markets & local jobs. Heather Murray has given some info to the assembly to use in their proposal to the consultants. Marcia is working on a document that will be shared with the executive council & compensation committee before it is sent to the consultants next week.

Daycare Committee Update

Krystal Burns has a list from Family Care Resources.  The response to the Zagweb survey was low.  The committee has learned from the information that they have received that the major daycare issue is affordability and not availability as was first thought.  The Logan neighborhood has several licensed daycares within a short distance of the university.  The committee will be visiting the daycares. The committee will focus on the possibility of a sliding scale or subsidized daycare with the local centers.

It was recommended that the Daycare Committee become a regular committee of the Staff Assembly so that information will continue to be updated.

Basketball Ticket Distribution Update

Staff & faculty subcommittee met with Athletic Director, Mike Roth, on possible solutions to the basketball ticket distribution problems for the staff & faculty. Mike is very open to discussing options.  A possible weighted lottery or a way that employees could pick up the tickets prior to their work schedules is being discussed.  Part of the problem is that employees are taking time off to stand in line & some staff & faculty are unable to leave positions or classes to be able to stand in line.
