STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES (AMENDED)

September 25, 2002 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

President’s Conference Room

Members Present:, Neva Bishop, Keith Gauthier, Theresa Castillo, Trevor Werttemberge, Cathy Perry, William Kostelec, Kim Gieber, Mary Beth Charleboix; Jeannie Coffey and Brett Hendricks from the Budget Committee; Lisa Smythe-Rodino, Janice Resch, Georgia Dunham, Gina McFarland from the Compensation Committee

Members Absent: Krystal Burns, Matthew Wood, Anne Thomas

The meeting was called to order by President Keith Gauthier at 12:10

Old Business

Approval of minutes from 7/17, 7/24, 8/7 and 8/28

Steven Doolittle has been chosen to be the new Staff Regent

Anniversary cards are still an issue:

          Restrictions (GU logo items) SAEC

          Implementation – HR

          Cost of producing certificates – Bookstore

          Keith is addressing the issue.

Lottery – October – Anne Thomas  $25 gas card and $75 gift certificate to Walters in Greenbluff; November – Fred Meyer; December – Riverpark Square

New Business

Brett and Jeannie updated the SAEC on the budget committee activity, all summer meetings were cancelled and they have not met as of yet but start meeting every other Wednesday.  They don’t feel as if they know what they are doing, they were given no “purpose” from the University’s budget committee.  They were given a “confidential” budget, but what to do with it?

Brett gave the SAEC a rundown of the analysis of the Staff survey.  He will get copies to all member of the SAEC.

Dale Goodwin would like to interview Keith for the November issue of Spirit.  Would like to hear about the direction the SAEC will be heading this year.

Steven Freedman has asked the SAEC to review the Statement of Governance Principles and Explanation of Governance Principles as pertains to the Board of Trustees.  He is looking for feed back and suggestions.

Diversity Video - Raymond Reyes will attend the next SAEC (10-2) to show the video. SAEC needs to decide how and when to show to the entire staff assembly

Fall open meeting – When?  Thayne McCulloh would like to address the Staff Assembly on the Re-accreditation process.

Need clarification of classification of employees, are the VPs considered staff and are they part of the Staff Assembly?

Janice Resch was chosen as interim treasurer.  The SAEC will address the addition of a treasure to the SAEC at a later meeting.

Scheduling of future meetings

Next Meeting will be held on October 2, 2002 in the President’s Conference Room.

Future meetings will be held each Wednesday in 1898 Room from 12:00 – 1:00.  Since this is the lunch hour, please feel free to bring your lunch.  All SAEC members will be notified if there is a change to this recurring meeting.

By virtue of the bylaws, all Staff Assembly meetings are open unless otherwise designated by the Executive Council.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
