1889 Room

Members Present:, Neva Bishop, Keith Gauthier, Theresa Castillo, Anne Thomas, Trevor Werttemberger, William Kostelec, Kim Gieber, Mary Beth Charleboix, Krystal Burns, Lisa Smyth-Rodino and Janice Resch from the Compensation Committee

Members Absent: Cathy Perry

The meeting was called to order by President Keith Gauthier at 12:10

Old Business

Anniversary Cards:  Dave would like to withdraw the bookstore participation in the gift certificate with regards to the producing of the gift certificates.

“And We Stayed”, a video:  There was discussion on whether new hires should see it….a majority of the SAEC voiced that it would not be in the best interest of the new hire to see it when first hired…perhaps after 6 months or so. There was also discussion on how to show it to staff.  Thayne McCulloh suggests we show it at the open staff meeting.  The discussion after the video is still a concern.  Keith suggested to Raymond Reyes that the members of the SAEC would be willing to become facilitators for the discussion that needs to come from the showing of the video.

Trustee Draft – No other changes suggested but adding staff as stakeholders.

SAEC goals for the 0203-year include working on the wages, compensation and benefits issues as shown in the last survey.

New Business

Theresa Schermerhorn passed along a report via Neva Bishop that the Security Council was not meeting because the chair is on sabbatical and no one else has taken up the lead.  Keith will follow-up with Jeff Hart in Security.

Krystal brought up New Employee Orientation

She feels that the SAEC needs to have our own 10-minute slot to talk about. The SAEC agreed.  Keith will to speak to HR regarding the issue.  We need to appoint a Rep to attend the New Orientation sessions.

Neva will write a proposal to add a Treasurer to the SAEC officers and to hold an election to elect both a Vice President and Treasurer.

It has been reported that the has been administrative concern that the Spirit newsletter is no longer needed.  SAEC feels strongly that this is an important communication tool that the staff uses to keep up with what is happening in the community.  SAEC will supports the continuation of the Spirit.

Scheduling of future meetings

Next Meeting will be held on October 16, 2002. Future meetings will be held each Wednesday in 1898 Room from 12:00 – 1:00.  Since this is the lunch hour, please feel free to bring your lunch.  All SAEC members will be notified if there is a change to this recurring meeting.
