STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

October 31, 2001 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Crosby Large Conference Room

 

Members Present: Bill Kostelec, Brett Hendricks, Janice Resch, Kim Gieber, Krystal Burns, Anne Thomas, Neva Bishop and Keith Gauthier

Members Absent: Barbara Kolbet, Theresa Castillo, and Molly Spilker

Guests Present: Lisa Smythe-Rodino, Diana Lartz, and Georgia Dunham

The meeting was called to order by President Bill Kostelec at 12:05.

Old Business

Minutes from 10/24/01 passed.

Review of meeting with Mike Casey, Bill Kostelec and Keith Gauthier.

  • Mike Casey agreed to be the liaison between the Staff Assembly and Father Spitzer.
  • Mike Casey reports directly to Father Spitzer and work for the Board.
  • Will be reading the compensation survey – he was not here when it was originally published.
  • Will serve as "mail carrier" to Father Spitzer
  • Expecting proposals from us in about two weeks, regarding morale and compensation
  • Discussions were had surrounding morale and the need to proceed with something as soon as possible to boost morale.

It was suggested by Bill Kostelec that we continue to meet with the same agenda and the same group of people, the Staff Assembly Executive Council and the Compensation Committee, until we have some solid proposals to send to Father Spitzer via Mike Casey. It was agreed on by everyone present to proceed as Bill suggested.

Compensation Survey Discussion

A long discussion ensued, and the main themes that surfaced were

  • Morale is low and continuing to decline
  • Need for supervisor training
  • Erosion of quality of benefits
  • Increasing price of benefits
  • Compensation structure
  • Low compensation

Proposals

The Compensation Committee submitted two proposals – both regarding morale. One was a short term morale boosting solution and the other was regarding overall compensation procedures, and long term morale boosting. The executive council asked for some changes and will revisit these proposals on 11/7/01.

Scheduling of future meetings

November 7th, Crosby Multipurpose Room, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Future meetings will be held each Wednesday in Crosby Large Conference Room from 12:00 – 1:00. Since this is the lunch hour, please feel free to bring your lunch. All SAEC members will be notified if there is a change to this recurring meeting.

By virtue of the bylaws, all Staff Assembly meetings are open unless otherwise designated by the Executive Council. Everyone is welcome to attend.
