STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

November 1, 2000      9:00 a.m.       Crosby Large Conference Room

1.                   Call to Order

Scott Murray called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.

2.                   Committee  Reports

a.  Review of Committee Reports

Growth concerns remain an issue. Parking is a big concern particularly with the enrollment increase. Building maintenance lso is a concern.  As new buildings are constructed, we have fewer people to maintain them. The Staff Assembly representative to the budget committee should be present and be willing to make suggestions to the committee and voice our concerns.

 b.  Guests

We had input from our guests regarding some of the issues we have discussed. They shared their thoughts on the growth and compensation plans.

3.             New Business

a.        Open Forum

The relationship between SA and the University administration is positive.  Scott is able to have meetings with Harry Sladich and get accurate information. We will promote that relationship and also inform the staff about the improvement in communication.  Concerns were expressed that the SA doesn't have decision making power for any specific issue.  Being part of the decision process is helpful, but the SAEC wants to have a greater impact for the staff.  It was suggested that we propose to the university that the staff, as a body, be able to make some "smaller" decisions to start with (like the labor day holiday or something like that).  This could be an example of building credibility and voice. Another suggestion was made regarding our getting out and talking with staff members and drecting our energies toward real issues such as compensation.

b.       Outreach Committee

Officers discussed the suggestion for a holiday charity activity how it could be implemented and how the SAEC could be helpful in the success of that project.  Scott shall follow-up with Gail.

c.        Meeting Attendance

It is important for all executive council members to be in attendance at our meetings. If it is not possible to be present, the president should be notified.

3.                    Next Meeting

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2000  - 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
