STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES
January 24, 2000
LABOR DAY:
Steve
Doolittle reported to Rosemarie that the change in the Labor Day
holiday that was previously approved has been revoked. Steve will
send out a letter to all staff and faculty explaining this
change. Steve will
also recommend to all department heads the possibility of giving
employees the option of taking off the Labor Day holiday on
September 4, 2000 or September 22, 2000.
STAFF ADVOCATES:
Rosemarie or Scott have not heard back from Peggy Bilger and/or
Victoria Loveland regarding staff advocate training. Rosemarie will contact them
and report back to the committee on her findings.
ACTION:
Rosemarie will contact Peggy Bilger and/or Victoria Loveland
regarding staff advocate training.
FACULTY COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS MEETINGS:
Bobbie League
will attend the next faculty Compensation and Benefits meetings.
After attending both meetings, she will decide which of the two
meetings will be more
beneficial to the Staff Assembly to attend on a regular
basis.
STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETINGS:
Rosemarie will ask Linda Pierce if a member of the Faculty Assembly
Executive Committee would like to attend the Staff Assembly
Executive Council meetings as a liaison between the two
committees.
STAFF ASSEMBLY
EVENTS:
We need to start planning our spring event and arrange for a speaker. It is important for the Staff Assembly to build annual traditions. Suggested ideas for events were:
1) Yearly spring luncheon with guest speaker and Staff Assembly annual report.
2)
Annual fall event – possibly more formal at Bozarth including hors
d’oeuvres, drinks, and music. (Possibly on a Friday night –
including families.)
Scott will look into the cost for a fall event and report his findings back to the committee. Also, he will look into the possibility of having a Spokane historian at the fall event. Rosemarie will discuss with Raymond Reyes the possibility of speaking at the spring event. It was recommended that the theme of the speech revolve around the idea of community effort, involvement, volunteering, and your voice counts.
COMPENSATION
SURVEY:
The Compensation Survey, Fall 1999 has been sent out to all staff. The deadline to have them returned is January 31, 2000. Currently approximately 200 surveys have been returned. Rosemarie will contract Thayne and Bobbie to find out when they would be available to call a meeting of the entire Staff Assembly to give a public presentation of the result of that survey. The Staff Assembly Executive Council needs to meet with the Compensation Committee to discuss the results of the survey prior to the presentation. Rosemarie will ask the compensation committee if they would be ready to meet with the Executive Council at the next scheduled meeting on Monday, February 7, 2000. It was suggested that that results could be posted on the Staff Assembly web site after the presentation.
SUGGESTION BOX:
Scott has a suggestion box that he will donate to the staff assembly. It is a large wood box with a padlock. It was suggested that it be placed in the employee lounge beside the Foley Library book drop box. A mechanism needs to be in place on how to process the suggestions. It was addressed that all suggestions in the box be removed prior to the next scheduled Staff Assembly Executive Council meeting and discussed at that meeting. If possible, an acknowledgment will be sent out notifying the person writing the suggestion that it has been received and it will be discussed as an agenda item at the next meeting. When an e-mail is sent out to the staff notifying them of the suggestion box, the e-mail should also include our e-mail address and hotline number.
