Staff Assembly Executive Council
Tuesday, 9/13/11, 3-4pm in PACCAR 203

Called to order 3:02pm

Regent Position Selection – Rodolfo
Jeff and Carol have revised the application and candidate criteria. Some changes include the applicant having some level of past involvement with Staff Assembly to be considered. Currently the hourly position is vacant, the exempt position (Cathy Dieter) will be available as of this summer. Timing of filling both positions is suggested in two phases, Fall for filling the hourly position and Spring for filling the exempt. No changes were recommended.

Fall Kickoff Social 9/19 – Angela
Event will be held in the Globe Room from 3-5pm on Monday, 9/19. This is an opportunity for people with June, July, August, and September hire dates to retrieve anniversary gifts. We will also offer a chance to vote on photos submitted from Gonzaga Spirit Day. Fr. Case will be attending.

Potential Professional Development Opportunity: Mark Gonzalez – Rudy
Strategic Plan Goal 4 is about increasing value of human difference. How might Staff Assembly serve this goal? UMEC is inviting a speaker to host the diversity monologues program on March 29, Mark Gonzalez from Seattle. The proposal is for Staff Assembly to support Mark’s visit in order for staff to access his educational program as a professional development activity. UMEC is seeking community support and partnership, such as with area high schools. We would identify needs to be served by him being here, so that the program is tailored to our need. This may be good timing for the SA Heads Up Gonzaga event. A train-the-trainer element would be helpful so that there can be follow-up discussion and opportunities. Programming should compliment the Campus Climate survey effort. Council will discuss at a future meeting.

Set for Thursdays at 11am, the first and third weeks of the month starting September 22. Locations will vary.

Staff Assembly Leadership Updates

Staff Assembly Committees:

  • Community Outreach – Angela: current focus on the Fall Kickoff Social. Group will be meeting this month to review activities and plans.
  • SA Community Service – Molly: Half-day of Service and Cares Initiative information material will be shared at HR trainings. Planning service day around the Christmas holidays. United Way campaign assigned to Nancy Massingale by President McCulloh. Committee assisting with campaign paperwork.
  • Compensation: no update.

University Committee Representatives:

  • ACSS - Ann-Scott: meeting 9/20 this month, will be the 4th Tuesday of the month. Ann-Scott is new to group. She is open to taking suggestions or concerns from the staff community. Allison offered to be the Council point of contact for Ann-Scott to assist in communications.
  • Budget: no update.
  • Security Advisory– Chris: First meeting yet to happen this academic year.
  • Safety – Toni: attending first meeting today.
  • Mission Advisory Advisory Group: no update.

Staff Assembly Projects

  • Mission Awards – Connie: timeline set according to Fall Open Meeting. Nominations typically requested a month prior to the event.

Committee Connections – Rodolfo
The Council point of contact is valuable in keeping our committees and representatives informed and supported. Our experience will help identify details that can potentially be put into an operations guide for better continuity in the future. Council members agreed the Fall and Spring Open Meetings and the Heads Up Gonzaga become areas of responsibility for the SA Community Outreach Committee. Council point of contact list:
