Staff Assembly Executive Council Minutes
Thursday, 2/16/12
CG 1898 Room 11am-12noon

Attendees:  Toni Boggan, Beth Gordon, Connie Hickman, Carol Huston, Norm Leatha, Rudy Mondragon, Rodolfo Pagsanjan, Angela Ruff, Allison Sather, Wendy Thompson.

Absent:  Molly Ayers, Jeff Geldien.            Guest:  Bill Kostelec

Called to order at 11:03am


Draft Accreditation Report Review  - Rodolfo thoroughly reviewed sections referencing the staff or staff assembly, and has several proposals for refining the descriptions which he will present to Mike Herzog at the next opportunity.

By-Laws Proposal - Several proposed changes were discussed, with emphasis on the quorum recommendation. Bill Kostelec shared details from his interview research with an attorney and with a  founding Staff Assembly member.  Further discussion is needed in order to settle on the proposed changes and go out to the staff body with a vote.

Heads Up Gonzaga - Rodolfo and Jeff are working on plans for hosting a Heads Up Gonzaga event, to be presented at the next council meeting. 

Committee Updates

University Committees

·        ACSS – Ann-Scott Ettinger emailed an announcement that she has a report on how the university is doing with regard to the Sustainable Purchasing and Design Policies as of January 2012. 

·        Budget – Shannon Zaranski emailed notes from the February 13 meeting, including:  Benefits costs have increased this year due to higher usage of medical and tuition waivers. Graduate online tuition has decreased due to recession impacting employer support.  Proposed budget for next fiscal year includes staff salary increases of 3.2%, benefits funding increases of 10%, renewal and replacement funds to meet facility maintanence needs.  Less revenue is anticipated for online graduate and study abroad programs.  

·        Security Advisory – Chris Wheatley emailed notes from the recent meeting:  Zagalert system upgrade plan is being created by Security, Marketing and Communications, and Information Technology.   Security is exploring options for pedestrian safety education.  IT is helping Foley develop a guest check-in procedure for internet usage in the library. 

Council Committees

·        Outreach – Beth reported the committee is seeking additional members, and will soon be meeting to discuss the annual anniversary gift for next year.
