Call to Order: 10:30 a.m. by Rodolfo Pagsanjan, SAEC President

Introductions and Motivations:
Council members introduced themselves and explained their motivations for accepting positions on the SAEC.

Committee Relations:
Executive Council members were asked to and explained the expectation to participate in various other standing committees to ensure effective communication and investment between the committees and the Executive Council. Action Item: Rodolfo will send a list of committees to executive council members and will assist in the volunteer placement of council members onto committees as necessary.

Staff Assembly Leader Retreat:
Council members were informed of an upcoming leadership retreat, which will consist of former and current committee reps and Executive Council members. A date has not yet been set, but early August is expected.
Action Item: Rodolfo will keep council members updated on the date and details of the retreat.

Council Meeting Schedule:
The SAEC members will not expect to have another formal meeting until September. Members were asked to consider when and how often they will want to meet each month and also whether the use of blackboard as a communication tool should be continued.
Action Item: The SAEC may make a decision at the coming retreat on the frequency of meetings.

Regent Representative:
The SAEC has one vacant Regents Rep position to be filled. Interested members of the Gonzaga staff must apply for the position. SAEC will form a committee to solicit, accept, and review applications, as well as make selections for the board.
Action Item: Carol and Jeff have volunteered to head the committee and Rodolfo will pass along all electronic information that he has available to begin the process.

Staff Assembly Brand/Image – Dan Bubb:
With the beginning of year for the SAEC, an opportunity presents itself to promote the SAEC image in the Gonzaga and Spokane communities. It may be prudent to form a committee within SAEC to begin to collect information on what the brand/image that we project is now and how we can guide that in the future.

Rodolfo Pagsanjan, SAEC President, distributed a copy of his vision and goals for this year and asked the SAEC to both consider how SAEC can support the University’s mission and find an identity within it. Rodolfo explained how SAEC has an opportunity to build on what has been established in previous years as well as reevaluate processes, rules, regulations, etc. in order to become more efficient.

Toni Boggan, SAEC member, suggested creating an Executive Council mission statement.

Norm Leatha, SAEC member, commented that a focus should be on promoting the SAEC as advocates for the Gonzaga staff.

Jeff Geldien, SAEC member, informed the council that the Law School has had a presentation on the new payroll changes. It was suggested that the presentation be made available to all Gonzaga staff members to provide an opportunity to ask questions.

Action Items: Rudy, Dan, Toni and Norm will head a committee to begin examining SAEC image and how it can be guided in a positive way. Dan and Jeff will also begin to plan possible staff meetings in order to relay information about upcoming changes in payroll.

New Business:
GU Spirit Day will be on July 20th in Riverfront Park.

It has been suggested that Father Case be asked to speak with the Gonzaga Staff about the University mission. Possibly as a joint project with the Faculty Senate.
